• How to Recover Lost Photos From a Digital Camera

Have you ever had the problem with a photo or file becoming damaged? A Flash memory is a particular type of technology used to store data digitally. The data stored on it can be written and erased electrically using cameras. The most common reasons for the damage of photo files are the accidental deletion of a photo or accidental formatting of an entire memory card, which holds the photo files.

You can use File recovery for recovery of all kinds of lost data. The program is pretty easy to use as it only takes three steps to configure the process and start the scan of the flash card. With a single click, you can recover all files. It is a read-only software which will never rewrite the drive you want to recover files from. This allows the program to create a list of recoverable files that includes not just popular files that are included in the File Recovery extension database, but file types that the program has never seen before as well.

Nearly all of the picture restore utilities don't grant you restoring lost pictures until you buy the complete variant of the product. If you're getting a demo version of the product that'll let you only view the results and not actually save them on your media.

Almost all of the picture recovery utilities don't allow you restoring lost photos until you buy the full version of the product. If you are getting a demo version of the product that will let you only view the results and not actually save them on your media.

  • Recover Your Data With Hard Drive Recovery Service
A single loss of data may have different meanings, based on the person who lost it and the type of lost data and the cost involved in replacing the lost data. For instance, if you are a programmer and lost the access of 5 years of your coding, the result may be very damaging. And if you are associated with some corporate outfit, your damage may double, as they may not pay you for any loss of data. You lose your salary; the company loses the application and you both cannot buy those special data from your local store to reinstall. Hard drive recovery service companies come as helping hand to restore the essential data.
Data loss does not occur just in the business activities, but it does affect anybody who has not backed up the data or does not check the backups frequently. In this digital world, most of the households have digital camera and these small units have limited storage devices to store the photographs. When you lose photographs or videos of child rearing or your honeymoon collection, the stress is overwhelming. Get in touch with the reputed hard drive recovery service to easily retrieve your damaged data.
When you search for hard disk recovery through search engines, you may come across guidance to do it yourself. But never try to attempt those and make further damage to your computer. Perhaps when you overwrite the data, you may lose the chance of recovery. Seeking the professional hard drive recovery service is always a wise decision. There are wide ranges of companies that offer recovery service for the damaged data, yet the success of recovery is based on the condition of storage media. If the data tend to belong to the logical recoveries, the work tends to be simple, where you can try something on your own, with simple knowledge. But if the event is with the loss of data does not involve any storage media (when it is with laptop or PC), in that case, you definitely have to call the hard drive recovery service expert.
As the rate of population using computers grows, the hard drive recovery service too has become common. Therefore, you need to make a thorough homework and test the worthiness of the company. Ensure that they are aware of what they speak out. If you are contacting through a website, make sure that they have a proper and permanent address. • Hard Drive Repair Using Free Software
Contrary to popular belief, if a computer does not boot due to hard drive corruption all data is not lost and the hard drive may even be repairable. There are 2 types of hard drive damage. One is fixable by you and the other requires a professional data recovery facility.
Physical Drive Damage - Physical damage is the worst. Data recovery can only be done by professionals and can cost up to $1,500 (sometimes higher). Physical damage usually consists of bad actuator arms, damaged platters or fried controller cards.
Non-Physical Drive Damage - Non-Physical damage (NPD) is what we're going to be discussing in this article. NPD occurs when the operating system's file system (fat or ntfs) gets corrupted due to an improper shutdown (for example). While this damage is may seem really bad (if it's preventing you from booting your PC), it's easily fixable with some software that's already including in any Windows PC and a USB external hard drive enclosure.
Here are a list of items that you'll need to follow the instructions below:
Another working computer with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Find out what kind of hard drive you have. There are 2 types. SATA (small flat connector) and PATA (a.k.a IDE) which has a connector with about 30 pins. An external USB hard drive enclosure with a connector for the type of drive you're going to be connecting to it (you can grab one of these at BestBuy for about $50 USD).
Please follow the steps below to perform a non-physical repair (software repair) on a non-bootable hard drive.
    1. Take the drive out of the computer.
    2. Connect the hard drive to the connector on the USB enclosure.
    3. Connect a USB cable from the enclosure to the computer that's working.
    4. Power on the USB enclosure.
    5. An external drive will probably load in your list of available hard drives. You can see this list by opening "My Computer" or "Computer". Take note of the drive letter for the external hard drive.
    6. Now it's time to load a program called CHKDSK (Check Disk).
    7. Click Start (if you're on Windows XP) or click the Windows globe (on the bottom left for Vista and Windows 7).
    8. On Windows XP click RUN, then type CMD. On Windows Vista and 7 type CMD where it says "Search Programs and Files". This will open a black command prompt window.
    9. In the command prompt type chkdsk "the drive letter you want to check": /r and press enter. So here is an example chkdsk g: /r then press the enter key.
    10. This process can take hours. I've had a few that took days.
    11. If this command completes successfully your drive should be repaired enough for you to recover the data from it and you might actually be able to boot from it again.
A word of warning. If your drive ever has any errors on it (bad sectors) it's reached the end of it's life and should be replaced ASAP. You'll be able to see this in the report provided to by the chkdsk command at the end of it's scan.

  • Tips For Safe Data Recovery
When a computer hard drive crashes, data recovery is the only option for restoring the files lost on the drive. Nearly every computer owner has faced hard-drive failure at some point in their computer using days, but that does not mean they fully understand the dynamics involved in "lost" data. There are 4 tips that can help any computer user better recover those lost files.
#1 - Backup Before Failure Occurs
Saving a backup copy of the files on your computer on a daily or weekly basis can help alleviate any problems associated with hard drive failure. If backups are current, the drive will simply need to be replaced and the information loaded onto the new hdd.
#2 - Treat Your Computer Right
Personal and business computers should be turned off when they are not in use. This gives the hard drive time to rest and cool down. Think of the drive as having only 1000 credits. The credits are only used when the drive in working, so turning off the computer will help the drive to last longer.
#3 - Seek Help at the First Signs of Failure
Many hard drives will start making weird noises when they are failing. These noises could last for months and the user often feels they are just regular, common computer noises. On the contrary, they are a signal to get the computer to a data recovery or hard drive repair specialist before the crash happens.
#4 - Choose a Data Recovery Software Wisely
There are plenty of data recovery software programs out there that will harm the hard drive more than help it. These software programs often come with NO guarantee which is the opposite of hard-drive data recovery experts. If the software loses the data or cannot find the information on the drive, the money is already spent and the drive could be damaged beyond repair.

  • Survival Guide to Disk Recovery
The process of disk recovery has risen to prominence over recent years, as so much important data is now stored on computer storage units. Pretty much every action you carry out on your computer means that something is written on the hard drive, such as visiting websites etc. All the pages you view on the internet are stored in the Temporary Internet Folder. Even when this data is deleted it is still on the hard drive, just inaccessible using normal methods. Data recovery software can, however, access it.
If you do accidentally delete an important file, it is important to stop using the computer immediately. And deleted file may be overwritten with new data, so if you have deleted a file and you continue using the internet, for example, you'll run the risk of losing that file forever.
Some data is of huge importance, and the loss of that data can be very costly indeed. It is therefore crucial to act as quickly as possible and recover the data. There are a number of companies that offer disk recovery services, and they probably represent the most effective way to recover your data. Another possible way to go about disk recovery is to buy some software recovery software - but there is the risk that simply by installing the software you will overwrite your prized data. This risk is reduced if the disk recovery software is already installed when the accidental deletion takes place.
Disk recovery has become an essential part of modern business, and being prepared for it is crucial. 'Readiness is All' Shakespeare said, and with that in mind planning for the very worst scenarios can save a given business a huge amount of time and money in certain circumstances. Data is one of the most valuable assets in every business - sometimes being more important than things like vehicles and computers.
For businesses that hold peoples personal data - especially banks - it is crucial that data is protected from mishaps and that the very best and quickest data recovery software is available, operated by experienced disk recovery specialists. Companies that specialise in this process often offer services that involve sending a specialist team out as quickly as possible to rectify the situation.
There are various firms that offer such services and you can find them easily by searching the internet. It is a good idea to look at the clients such companies have, as there is a certain sense of security in working with disk recovery firms that have maintained big brands.

  • Registry Cleaners - Are They Compatible With Your Software?
For those with little computer knowledge, the worry that their new registry cleaner software won't be compatible with their current software is a common one. They wonder if their new software will cause problems with what they already have installed. Luckily, this is not a problem with registry cleaning software.

You will find that, so long as you are running on a Windows operating system, all registry cleaners will be compatible with your software. You simply need to ensure that you use one that will work with your current operating system, as some of the newer cleaners are unable to run on older operating systems.

There is, however, a very small chance that one of  your software programs will not run properly after using certain registry cleaners. This sometimes occurs when a necessary entry is removed from a particular program during the cleaning process. Thankfully, this was a concern that was caught early, and a simple solution was found. A backup system is included with your registry cleaning software. Before changing your registry in any way, you should make a back up copy of it. That way, should something happen during the cleaning process, you can easily restore your computer's registry to its original status.

The regular use of a registry cleaner should improve your software's speed by decreasing the time your computer spends sorting through the registry entries, and finding those needed to run your programs. By removing the needless entries, those that your computer is not using anyway, you'll be saving yourself and your computer a great deal of time.

All in all, using a registry cleaner is a safe way to clean out your computer's clutter. So long as you choose a registry cleaner that is compatible with your operating system, you shouldn't run into any compatibility issues. The only issue you may run into, as far as software performance goes, is the chance that your cleaner may accidentally remove a necessary software program entry. Thankfully, this is an easily fixed problem.

You should clean up some unnecessary files from hard disk and save limited space. This could improve the data access speed to some extent.

Too many start up programs can also slow down the Windows boot. The more start up programs you enable, the slower Personal Computer boot up. It takes time for Windows to access the data and registry key value of the program. To speed up the Windows startup, you should disable some unnecessary programs.

One of the most important parts in Windows XP and Vista is the registry. Registry stores the data which is vital to Windows and all programs. when you install a program, the data must be stored into registry before you can run it. If one registry key of the program is corrupted and missing, you probably cannot run it.

If one registry key of Windows system is removed or changed by some accidental or illegal processes, it will lead to the computer running slow, Svchost.exe error, ActiveX error, DLL error, blue screen or even crash. It is vital to regularly clean up invalid keys and repair the corrupted keys.

  • Removable Disk Protection This tips is really come in handy for those who often use removable disk hardware as file storage. Moreover,  if our removable disk hardware is used on several different computers, for example from one personal computer to other personal computer or from an internet cafe to other internet cafe, then, our removable disk will be infected by viruses before we realize and resulted in data loss

The followings are some tips to protect our removable disk:

    1.   Make 2 or more partitions

If you have removable disk with more than 1Gb capacity, you should make multiple partition. This is to anticipate fatal damage either because of other virus or other causes, we are still able to save data one of the partitions if you have to format the disk as the last option. In making partition, use NTFS format ( support windows 2000/2003/XP) not FAT32.

Create one safe parts ( we must enter password to be able to access the part of removable disk which is safe – secure), and another part which is able to be accessed by public. If you use Windows XP Pro ( non Home edition) and its format is NTFS you can make password at a folder with the following steps:
Control panel >> Folder Options >> View >> See checkbox at the bottom >> uncheck it >> OK. Then, right click the folder which will beprotected >> Properties >> Security >> chek all the deny columns >> OK. The folder will turn into 0 byte.

    2.  Use applications to protect removable disk.

There are many tools to protect the folder and also file in storage device like:
    • File Protector
    • Folder Guard
    • Folder Lock
    • Mysecretfolder
    • Usbdiskguard
    • Carryit
    • Easy file Pro
    • Etc

From all tools above basically has the same function which is protecting folder or file with password so that others cannot access the folder or cannot be infected by viruses.

    3.  Data Compression and Encryption

Usually every removable disk always is packaged with its CD driver, in CD driver there exist a tool for “ Compression Support” and also “ Encryption Support”. But if we didn't get tool intended by we can apply other tool like WinRar to do compression and gives password at the data compression.

  • Asus 13.3" UL30A CULV Notebook Review
Asus is attempting to hit the notebook market with its new UL30. The particular model that we're looking at today is the UL30A-A1. This 13.3" notebook looks to offer more power than a typical netbook, yet provide nearly the same level of portability and battery life.

The UL30 was introduced along with a few other CULV machines, which stands for Consumer Ultra Low Voltage. This moniker refers to the Intel processor within, which is a more powerful chip than the Atom options found in most netbooks, yet isn't quite as potent as the full-fledged Core 2 Duo CPUs found in most full-size notebooks. Again, this whole machine is about splitting the difference, and we have to admit, it's a fine line to walk. Most folks are either satisfied with having a netbook to surf the Web and handle basic Office tasks or having a full-size notebook to handle desktop-like tasks; so, who exactly is the CULV machine for? On-the-go business travelers, consumers who need just a bit more power than a netbook can offer, and consumers who have realized that those full-size notebooks are just too powerful for their needs.

Many people will compare the UL30 to Apple's MacBook Air. Asus has settled the design with striking brushed aluminum lid. Measuring in at just an inch thick, this machine is nice and thin. Unlike some of Asus' thinner Eee PCs, the 8-cell battery is removable. This machine is equipped with Windows Vista, as it's too potent and too large to fit the mold required to run Windows XP as a "netbook" (by definition). We'll be putting this machine to the test in the pages to come, but right from the get-go, we'd say Asus has assembled a compelling package for just $799.

The point is not on how you save money on data recovery software, when you can put at risk months, if not years of hard work and possibly even your business itself. You need the best software for the problem that can give the best rates of data recovery.

There are some types of data recovery software, it depends upon the source and origin of your problem and the type of your operating system. If you have simply deleted something inappropriately, then it is probably possible to restore it through the normal Windows Operating System.

But if the problem is more complex, or cannot be resolved through your own means, then you'll probably need to buy some sort of data recovery software. Although there are many general types of data recovery software, there are also some that are targeted to more specific applications, such as public document formats files and zipped files.

After a crash or virus attack, data recovery software is much more effective if you do not use the computer for anything else until you install the software. This way the files are not usually overwritten by the computer and are much easier to restore. If you use the computer, even just to restart it, after your data has been lost, then there is a chance that the computer will see the gaps in the program where your information was, as empty space.

Then if you are using internet to surf or download anything, then it could use this space to store other things and thus make it much more difficult for the data recovery software to find and restore the data that you have lost.

  • How to Fix IExplore and System32 Problems
What caused IExplorer and System32 errors to occur? These are two different problems with corresponding different root causes for them to emerge in your computer; hence, we shall discuss each of them in order to have better understanding on how these error messages popped up on your screen.
The first issue is related to the use of Internet Explorer; this online browser is driven by an executable application known as iexplorer.exe. This is an important file necessary for this program to run properly; if this data is corrupted due to some reasons, then it will eventually lead to IExplorer and System32 errors to show up on your screen.
Another cause for this trouble to emerge is the installation of various add ons to your Internet Explorer; when some of these add-on files are corrupted, it will also affect the whole system and result to this type of trouble.
On the other hand, troubles related to system 32 are mainly driven by problems relating to your operating system considering that this is a system file. This is an important data required by your OS to smoothly operate. When this data becomes corrupted due to various reasons like too much accumulation of junk files in your registry, then some problems will occur on your computer.
Hence, one of the best ways to solve IExplorer and System32 errors is to clean your registry in order to clear your computer from junk files. The ideal way to do this is to use cleaning software available online which are very effective in the elimination of trash files and efficient in repairing problems found during the process. Ordinary products like free wares may not be able to resolve this issue considering the fact that most them have limitations in performing the repair jobs to be done on your unit.
The best method is to purchase premium products that are capable of completely eradicating all junk files in your registry and mend issues relating to this area; including the aforementioned errors. One good advantage of this method is that you can fix IExplorer and System32 errors in your unit without being a computer expert because the product is already well designed to do the intended job; saving you a lot of potential expensive expenses on professional fees for expert technicians.

  • What is SATA Hard drive?
Every computer stores the information saved in its memory on its hard drive. A hard drive is a set of disks held up on a central spindle, and each disk is made up of many tiny magnetic bits. An antenna, called a read-write head, encodes information onto these disks by using an electromagnetic flux to change the magnetic polarity of the bits that make up the disk. The more disks a hard drive has, and the more bits on each disk, the more memory space is available in the hdd. Different computers are specialized for different uses, so there are also different kinds of hard drives that are compatible with different kinds of computers. The three types of hard drives that you are most likely to encounter are SATA hard drives, PATA hard drives, and SCSI hard drives.
SATA hard drives, otherwise known as Serial ATA drives, are the cheapest variety of hard drive on the market. They are the newer variety of Parallel ATA hard drives, or PATA drives, which used to be the most common type of hard drive. Within the past two years, the SATA drive has almost completely taken the PATA drive's place as the most common hdd. The SATA hdd was designed for high bandwidth applications, such as multiplayer video games and video editing, so it is much faster and performs more efficiently than the traditional PATA drive. Also, SATA hard drives are easier and less costly to manufacture than PATA drives, so SATA hard drives are much cheaper in stores. The cable used to plug in the SATA variety of hard drive is more advanced than that of the PATA hard drive. The plug the cable uses to connect to the motherboard is smaller and cheaper, and it is easier to plug in without damaging the connector pins on the motherboard. Some of the newer models of the SATA hard drive do not work with the older cable ports on a computer's motherboard, so you may have to buy a SATA adaptor cable.
SCSI hard drives are of an even older design than the PATA hard drives, but they are still used today because they function much faster. They cannot hold as much information, and they are far more expensive than their SATA counterparts, but if you spend a lot of time on fast-paced network servers, or use other high speed, high bandwidth applications, you may want to consider using a SCSI hard drive.
The most important thing to remember when you are buying a hard drive is to get one that is designed for the motherboard your computer uses. If your motherboard and your hard drive are designed to work with each other, they will be more efficient than if you use an adaptor cable.

  • Computer Freezing - The Right Way to Fix It
There is almost nothing as frustrating as a computer freezing up on you. This can be especially disturbing if it happens in the middle of something important like writing an important document, doing your taxes or in the heat of a computer game. As the medicine commercial goes, you need relief and fast.
    Causes of Freezing
There can be many causes of freezing up. The most common ones are:
    • computer overheating
    • viruses or trojans
    • registry problems
    • Windows corruption
    • video driver problems
    Other causes include:
    • a faulty program
    • flaky RAM
    • hard disk going bad
    Repair Steps
    1. The rule in computer problems generally is that the latest change caused the problem. If you recently installed some new software or hardware, uninstall it and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then the new thing is the cause. Check on the Internet for any known problems with these things or contact the vendors for repair suggestions.
If this doesn't apply, Windows keeps track of errors in the event viewer. Click start->run, type eventvwr.msc and enter. Click on system and look for any error reports in the right column. If there is a link in the error report, click on it to get the details. The link will often provide you with a possible solution.
Do the same for application and the other choices on the left hand side until you find something that applies to your problem.
If you found the cause of your error, follow the suggested steps to correct the problem.
    2. Computer overheating - Check to make sure your fan is not being blocked. It would also pay to open your case and clean out any accumulated dust or junk.
If you open it, make sure to unplug it first. Additionally, you should touch the case to release any static electricity before touching anything inside the computer.
    3. Viruses or Trojans - Make sure that you have quality Internet security software such as Norton 360. Download and run Malwarebytes to get rid of any malware that you might have.
    4. Registry Problems - Use a high quality registry cleaner to correct these problems. I have found JV 16 utilities to have one of the best and safest registry repair utilities.
    5. Video driver problems - update your driver to the latest version going to the device manager and getting the latest version.
    6. Windows corruption - If your Windows operating system has gone bad, you need to repair it. The type of repair that you can do depends on your operating system version Windows 2000, XP or Vista.
    7. Other causes - The causes above are the most common ones.
If you always have the problem with a particular program, contact the vendor. You can easily find their support by Googling support contact.
RAM problems can be checked out by using free memory diagnostic programs.
If you suspect that your hard disk is going bad, do the following Click Start --> My Computer. Right click on the disk you want to check (usually C: ). Select Properties. Click on the Tools tab. Under Error Checking, click Check Now. Select the Automatically Fix File System Errors option, and the Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors option. Click on Start.

  • HP Pavilion dv3-2155mx

The HP Pavilion dv3-2155mx is a laptop from Hewlett-Packard that adds a bit of external flair with internal substance. A younger demographic will enjoy its design complete with tattoo-like shapes that cover much of its exterior. The HP Pavilion dv3-2155mx is ideal for movie buffs and is HD-friendly, as its display's 16:9 aspect ratio comes in handy when you want to pop in a DVD and get the optimal viewing experience. Add in an excellent battery life that won't leave you out in the cold while in class or on the road, and the HP Pavilion dv3-2155mx is a device that deserves a hard look when shopping for your next laptop.

Unfortunately, the HP Pavilion dv3-2155mx is a fixed configuration laptop, unlike many Dell models, so what you see is what you get. The HP Pavilion dv3-2155mx is currently available at a retail price of $729. It comes with a standard one year parts and labor warranty that includes 24/7 support via telephone or online chat.

The dv3-2155mx comes installed with the Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit operating system. The dv3-2155mx's speed and performance is satisfactory when compared to other laptops in its class thanks to its 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor and 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM for multitasking power. It also comes with a 500GB SATA 5400 RPM hard drive, which offers more than enough storage for most people's needs unless you have your own black market DVD and CD factory at home.

You can run some games on the laptop, as it uses an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD card. The integrated Altec Lansing speakers produce good sound as well for enjoying music or movies without the need for headphones, although the sound will obviously be better with them on. There is also built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi or 10/100Base-T Ethernet LAN if you prefer a wired Internet connection.

It is disappointing that the faster 802.11n Wi-Fi and that Gigabit Ethernet are not available, as these are options that are usually present in most laptops nowadays. Bluetooth is also absent.

  • HP Mini 110 by STUDIO TORD BOONTJE
HP Mini 110 by STUDIO TORD BOONTJE

This new netbook is essentially a minor refresh of the current 10-inch Mini netbook from HP. The biggest difference isn't inside ... this time you really can judge a netbook by its cover. HP was the first laptop manufacturer to produce lid designs that were printed inside multiple layers of plastics. The "HP Imprint" technology has since been copied by several other companies, but the new Mini 110 is the first laptop to feature a three-dimensional surface known as HP Imprint 3D. It's hard to describe what the lid looks like, but it's essentially multiple layers of fully transparent and partially transparent plastic that create a sense of depth and texture to the design on the lid.
HP worked with designer Tord Boontje to create a unique flora design that weaves delicately around endangered animals and unravels onto the palm rest and touchpad. HP will even offer a range of matching accessories that are covered in the same HP Imprint 3D design.
The Mini 110 comes with a clean desktop as well as a Stardock MyColors custom theme, screen saver, icons and 15 wallpapers designed by Tord Boontje. The Mini 110 starts at $399.

  • Data Backup on Windows XP
Backing up data is very important to keep your data protected. Having all your files stored in one location means they are vulnerable to being lost if an accident were to happen. It is recommended, therefore, to have at least two copies of your files to ensure you won't lose any data.
If you are using Windows XP, you have a small backup utility already included in the operating system. While not as full-featured as some of the advanced software, it is free and simple to use. It can do the job easily enough, especially if you have simple files, such as digital photos or documents, that you need to backup.
To use the Windows XP backup utility, you use the following steps:
    1. Click "Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Backup" to open the backup utility. The Backup or Restore Wizard starts, unless you have disabled it. If it doesn't start, click "Tools->Backup Wizard" from the menu.
    2. Click the "Next" button.
    3. In the "What do you want to do?" window, click "Back up files and settings", and then click "Next".
    4. You can how choose what to back up. You have several options:

      • My documents and settings. This setting backs up the files in your "My Documents" folder and preserves your data files, including e-mail messages and address books. Your personal settings will also be saved as well. I recommend choosing this option if you are new to backing up data, or the second option if there is more than one user of the computer.
      • Everyone's documents and settings. If there is more than one user for your computer, this option will backup all users' files and settings, which is similar to the first option.
      • All information on this computer. This is the largest backup option as it backs up everything on your computer, which you may not want if space is limited.
      • Let me choose what to back up. With this option you can choose what you want to backup. If you are unsure about backing up your data, don't choose this option.
    5. Once you have chosen what to backup, you will need to choose where to store your backup. Under "Choose a place to save your backup", you can specify where to store your files. Some options are:

      • Local hard disk. This is not the best location as you would like to save your data in an external location away from your computer. If you want, you can use it as a temporary location and then copy it later.
      • External hard disk. These hard disk drives are not expensive and can be purchased anywhere. They have a lot of disk storage space, so you shouldn't have a problem with save your backups here. This is a good location to store your backed up data.
      • A network share. If you have access to server, such as at work, then this is a good option for your. Chances are the servers already have a good backup process in place, so you data will be even safer. For home use, not too many people would have shared network drives, unless they have a second system.
      • USB flash drive. These small little drives are becoming larger to the point where they make good alternatives to backing up your data. While external hard drives give you more storage space for your buck, they aren't as portable as a USB flash drive.
    6. After choosing a location for your backup, you simply enter a descriptive name for the backup file. You simply click "Next" on the final page and then "Finish" to start backing up your data.
While you can go and purchase software to backup your files, it may be easier to check out the Backup utility that comes with Windows XP. This utility may be all that you need to keep your files protected.

  • How to boost your notebook battery life
Let`s face it, most notebook manufactures don`t tell all the truth about their machines` battery life. When a notebook manufacturer tells you that their machine will last up to 4-5 hours, never take it at face value. The claim of notebook manufactures might be usually true under ideal circumstances, but we hardly find situations ideal in our day to day life. In order to make sure that the battery of your mobile machine lasts up to your expectation, there are a number of tips you can follow. Here are some of the essential guidelines you can follow to take control of your notebook`s battery.
    • Go for de-fragmentation - Regular de-fragmentation is useful for making your notebook battery last longer. It enables you to arrange available data appropriately and hence the hard drive takes less time for accessing the data. The faster functioning of the hard drive puts lesser load on the battery and hence ensures it lasts longer.
    • Prefer to pause scheduled tasks - Be it de-fragmentation or virus scanning, when you are near a power outlet; make sure that you schedule it for a specified time period. However, you can also put them on hold for some time.
    • Keep external devices unplugged - It is always advisable to keep your external devices unplugged, be it your PC cards, external speakers, external mouse, Bluetooth or even an attached iPod. These are USB devices that offer much load on the battery power and hence unplug them, when not in use.
    • Remove the CD/DVD drives when not in use - Avoid leaving CD/DVDs in the drives when you are not using them. This is important because a spinning drive drains away battery power, thus reducing its life.
    • Set the lowest level for screen light - LDC screen lights put immense load on battery power. It is always better to keep the brightness level as low as it is convenient for you. For this, you can use either the Display Settings applet in the Control Panel or the Function key toggles.
    • Reduce the volume and use of multimedia software - Multimedia software and installed sound schemes are complete drain on battery power. Avoid there usage when not required. Mute the speakers when not listening. All this will result in longer battery life.
    • Prefer hibernation mode over stand by mode - Always prefer hibernation mode over stand by mode because in the later case though the display and hard drive is turned off, the memory remains active and consumes power. But in the hibernation mode the computer is shut down, while saving the current state and hence there is no power consumption.
    • Avoid using several programs at a time - Using too many programs at the same time can kill your battery life. Moreover, there are some programs like graphic intensive applications like video games that consume lot of battery power. Try to minimize their use and avoid running multiple programs simultaneously because they will shorten your battery life.
    • Go for additional RAM - It is often recommended to use adequate RAM to reduce load on the hard drive. Although additional RAM may consume more power, it actually results in over all more savings because it reduces the power consumption requirements of the hard drive.
    • Use original adapters - While using an adapter, make sure that it is an original piece with accurate specifications. In case you use a wrong adapter, there are chances that it may cause over load on your battery and hence damage you notebook and battery.
With the above instructions in mind, you can surely offer your notebook battery higher longevity, which can come to your rescue, saving a lot of frustrations for you during work emergencies.
